Roller brake tester calibration and repairs: preparing your enquiry

A roller brake tester enquiry is easier to assess when the engineer can identify the exact machine and understand the work required. TPGE handles brake tester calibration and repair enquiries from independent MOT stations and fleet workshops. Send the model and your postcode so we can confirm coverage and agree the scope.

Identify the tester before booking

Send the manufacturer, model, serial number and workshop address, together with a photograph of the identification plate. Include the MOT class and whether the machine forms part of an automated test lane. If the display, computer or software has been replaced, explain what changed; the name on the rollers alone may not describe the complete system.

Attach the latest calibration certificate and any relevant service records. For a multi-site enquiry, list each machine against its own location and renewal date. This helps separate routine work from machines that need further investigation.

Describe the fault in plain language

Tell us what the tester does, when the issue first appeared and whether it affects one side or both. A clear photograph of an error message is more useful than a shortened description of it. Note any unusual noise, intermittent readings or connection problems without removing covers or attempting electrical work.

Say whether the equipment is currently unavailable for testing and what dates would suit a visit. If a repair needs parts, availability and the proposed work must be confirmed before a completion date can be agreed.

Calibration, servicing and repairs have different scopes

Calibration checks measurement performance against the applicable procedure. A service or repair may address wear, operation or a specific fault. Tell us which work you need so the quotation can identify the tasks, any parts and the visit arrangements.

DVSA requires calibration records to be kept for at least two years. Its current guide explains the brake tester scheduling rules and who may carry out calibration. Check the requirements for your equipment and keep the certificate readily accessible.

Prepare the workshop and records

Name the person who can give access and provide the equipment records. Include opening hours, any site induction, parking arrangements and constraints around MOT appointments. Keep a note of the work requested and check the equipment identity when the resulting documents arrive.

Discuss your brake tester with an engineer

Capelec CAP 9010 and CAP 9020 are TPGE’s preferred brake tester ranges. We also receive multi-brand calibration and repair enquiries; compatibility and postcode coverage are confirmed individually. For a replacement machine, ask for the selected configuration and installation requirements.
