Vehicle lift servicing and LOLER examinations: planning workshop support
Updated: Oct 8
Vehicle lift support starts with knowing the machine, its condition and the work needed. TPGE receives enquiries for lift servicing, repairs, inspections and thorough examinations from garages and fleet workshops. An equipment register and clear visit scope help you organise that work around the workshop.
Servicing and thorough examination are separate tasks
HSE recommends a competent person thoroughly examines vehicle lifts every six months and issues a Report of Thorough Examination. HSE also explains that this does not replace routine checks and maintenance. Servicing, defect repairs and thorough examination should therefore be identified separately in your enquiry and records.
Different workshop assets have different inspection requirements. Describe each vehicle lift, jack, lifting accessory or other item individually, rather than treating every asset as one category. The competent person can confirm the appropriate examination scope and schedule.
What to send for a lift quotation
Send the manufacturer, model, serial number, rated capacity, location and number of lifts. Add the latest examination report, any defect notes and the available maintenance history. Photographs of the identification plate and overall installation can help identify the equipment without dismantling it.
If you need a repair, describe the symptoms and include any fault message. Explain whether the lift has been moved, altered or recently installed. Keep the equipment out of use if its safety is uncertain and arrange assessment; an online enquiry does not establish that a lift is safe to operate.
Agree access, downtime and document delivery
Tell us your preferred visit dates, the contact for access and any induction requirements. Include restrictions around vehicle movements or workshop opening hours. For several sites, group the assets by address and nominate the person who will receive the records.
Ask the quotation to identify whether it covers a service, diagnosis, repair, examination or a combination. Parts, follow-up work and access arrangements should be agreed before booking. After the visit, file each report against the correct asset and track any outstanding actions.
Buying a lift for collection and self-install
TPGE’s Launch TLT240SBA-3 cash-and-carry special is £1,995 plus VAT (£2,394 including VAT). It is the four-tonne, three-phase floorplate model. The offer is for collection and customer-arranged installation; delivery, electrical work, installation, commissioning and inspection are quoted separately. Stock and collection arrangements are confirmed with TPGE.
Before choosing a lift, check its dimensions, electrical supply and installation specification with the engineer. HSE says the floor and fixings must meet the manufacturer’s specification and that a competent person must test the installed lift before use. The collection offer does not replace these requirements.
Book the right workshop support
See TPGE's LOLER inspections and vehicle lift thorough examinations, alongside PUWER inspections for garage equipment. Send your asset list and postcode so the required scope can be confirmed.
For brake testers, gas analysers, smoke meters and headlamp testers, see MOT equipment calibration. Calibration and lift examinations require their own agreed scope and records.
Guidance checked on 5 October 2026. Call 01924 266355 or email sales@tpge.co.uk with the equipment details and postcode.
